February 3-5, 2012 – Rapture or New Creation? Biblical Visions of the End by Dan Epp-Tiessen, Canadian Mennonite University. What does the Bible teach about God’s ultimate purposes for humanity and the world? This portable will explore topics like the colourful imagery of Daniel and Revelation; the origins of the end-times and Rapture scenario promoted by the Left Behind novels and figures like Hal Lindsey and Jack Van Impe; and God’s work to redeem the world and free it from evil, sin, and death. Friday 7pm: “Rapture or New Creation?”And Saturday morning 9am: “Longing for God’s Reign” will be hosted at Eben-Ezer Mennonite Church, 2051 Windsor St., Abbotsford. There will also be opportunity to sign up for Saturday lunch and discussion with our guest speaker. 9:30am Sunday morning adult elective: “Dragon Wars” and 10:30am Sunday sermon “Our Future Is Physical” will be at Emmanuel.
February 4, 7pm- The Abbotsford Vietnamese Mennonite Fellowship meets in the banquet room. This church plant is a joint effort between Emmanuel, Vancouver Vietnamese Mennonite Church and Mennonite Church British Columbia. Please feel free to attend as an encouragement to the group

This morning I took part in an online session on Social Media for Churches put on by WaterBrook Multnomah Press--very informative, great set up so I could see the slides online, hear the speaker, ask questions, and interact with others online in a sidebar chat. We're already doing some of the things suggested--having a website that gets updated regularly, a blog, making sure our email and website address appears on all church materials. I really appreciated the checklist of other things we can do--too long to repeat here, but these are the ones that I think would be priorities for us: Continue »
Now that I'm on a partial leave from the church, Gary and I still try to worship on Sunday mornings, but as on my previous leaves we generally try to choose a church where no one knows us--in part so neither of us gets surprised by an unexpected, last-minute responsibility (it happens!), in part to learn from other churches we may not be familiar with, and in part so we never forget what it's like to be a stranger in a new church.
