A time of silence and prayer for the 215 children

With Pastor Bob Boehr.

Join our Zoom gathering of lament, remembrance, prayer on Thursday, June 3 at 7pm PST by emailing office@emmanuelmennonite.com. We hope to light 215 candles across all our screens as a part of this short gathering, so please bring as many candles to light as you can, and spread the word.

  1. One must ask oneself what permits the sad death, dare I say killing, of thousands of little children in this very pathetic chapter in Canadian history. There is a deeper problem then blaming residential schools (for this was also a reality in the English educational system as well). The “Indian” Residential Schools system was allowed to be because of a deliberate racist and colonialist mindset that pervaded (and still pervades) our dominant Caucasian, dare I say English/European cultures. We beat our breasts now (and rightly so) because of the most recent discovery of a mass grave on school grounds run by Christian clergy, but we would do well to examine whether these thoughts and attitudes still persist within our own hearts and minds. The arrogance and hubris we so easily embrace need to be replaced with a big dollop of humility and a request for forgiveness.
